New sterile services facility successfully put into operation in Bretten

March 25, 2026 - After two years of planning and construction, INSTRUCLEAN commissioned the new sterile services facility in Bretten at the beginning of March together with RKH clinics. A few days earlier, the Karlsruhe Regional Council and the health department had inspected the facility on site and released it without complaints. The official opening ceremony was celebrated at the end of March.

The new sterile services facility replaces the previous unit at the Fürst Stirum Clinic in Bruchsal, which dates back to 1986, and significantly improves the safety of patient care thanks to state-of-the-art equipment and optimal processes. This provides the best conditions for the highest level of hygiene and the best security of supply, even with further increasing requirements.

"We are pleased to make an important contribution to the safety of patients and care in the Karlsruhe region. My sincere thanks go to all colleagues who have contributed with passion, team spirit and perseverance to raising the sterile supply there to a new level. Projects like this are a convincing reference to how we can further strengthen our quality leadership in the market: innovatively, responsibly and always with the health of patients in mind," said Enrico Jensch, CEO of Fresenius Health Services.

In the future, both RKH clinics in the Karlsruhe district will be supplied with sterile goods from Bretten. Accordingly, the sterile services facility has a capacity of up to 60,000 sterile goods units per year. For this purpose, it is equipped with four sterilisers, six cleaning and disinfection devices and a container washing system. In addition, a later capacity expansion to up to 100,000 units is already planned, as the RKH Enzkreis clinics are also to be supplied in the future.

The staff is supported, among other things, by state-of-the-art robot technology – such as driverless transport systems. This ensures physical relief and health care from the very beginning.

Over the next twelve months, INSTRUCLEAN will support RKH with services, including process management, IT and master data management. This ensures a smooth transition from the old to the new facility and quickly establishes a sustainably high-quality regular operation there. Fresenius Health Services will take care of the maintenance and repair of the operating technology over the next 24 months.
